Tragedy has struck Bode Miller and his family.
The world champion skier confirmed in an emotional Instagram post on Monday evening that he and his wife have lost their 19-month old daughter.
Her name was Emeline Grier Miller and the incident took place in a pool in the neighborhood of Coto de Caza, California.
"We are beyond devastated," Miller wrote as a caption to a photo of his toddler.
He added in more, awful detail:
"Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten.
"Our little girl loved life and lived it to it’s fullest everyday. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time."
The Orange County Fire Department said yesterday that paramedics were called to the scene and performed CPR, prior to transporting the little girl to a nearby hospital...
... where she was unable to be resuscitated.
The Orange County Coroner’s Office also confirms Emeline’s passing.
According to TMZ, Bode and his wife, Morgan, were attending a party at a neighbor's home when the fatal accident occurred.
Back in November of 2016, the Olympic alpine skier and his wife, professional beach volleyball player Morgan Beck Miller, welcomed Emmy; she was their second child together and his fourth overall.
Miller and Morgan are parents to a three-year old named Nash; while Bode has two kids from previous relationships: a five-year old son named Samuel and a 10-year old daughter named Neesyn.
One scroll through Bode and Morgan's Instagram feeds makes it clear just how much time they spent with their children and just how much they loved their family.
When the veteran athlete went to cover the Winter Olympics, he couldn't help but express how much he missed his kids at the time, including Emmy.
"I can't wait to get home to my little princess. She's waiting patiently," he wrote on social media last year.
Miller is a six-time Olympic medalist.
He has won one Gold Medal, three Silver Medals and two Bronze Medals, winning his Gold in the super combined at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
He last competed at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
Just a few months, the proud parents chronicled Emmy's first birthday celebration on their respective Instagram accounts.
"Happy 1st Birthday to my baby girl!" Morgan shared of her infant daughter.
"Everyone at U.S. Ski & Snowboard is devastated to hear the tragic news about Bode and Morgan's baby daughter Emmy," CEO and President of U.S. Ski and Snowboard Tiger Shaw shared in a statement last night, adding:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their family and friends at this time."
Added Lindsey Vonn on Twitter:
"Devastating news. My deepest condolences to you and your family @MillerBode."
And skiier Julie Mancuso:
"Thoughts and prayers to the Miller family. @MillerBode @MorganEBeck tragic news that you never want to hear. Sending love."
This past Easter, Bode and his wife announced they were expecting another baby in October of 2018.
